The 1,375km of Ethane Pipeline connects the Moomba Facility in South Australia to the Qenos Botany Plant in Sydney, New South Wales. It comprises a dedicated high pressure gas pipeline and associated assets. The Ethane Pipeline transports ethane to Qenos, Australia's sole producer of polyethylene (of which ethane is critical). The Pipeline has been in operation for 12 years. It was built between 1994 and 1996 by the Commonwealth Pipeline Authority under a contract with East Australian Pipeline Ltd (EAPL). At the time of construction, the Pipeline Company was owned by ICI Australia Limited (now Orica) who also then owned the Botany Plant. In December 1999, Orica sold the Pipeline Company to a consortium of fund managers and investors. |
